DIY Bath Bombs
Combine the citric acid and baking soda, whisking them to eliminate any lumps.
Add six full pipettes full of your essential oil to the mixture and whisk thoroughly to combine. Add more for a stronger fragrance or less for a milder fragrance.
Next separate the mixture into two bowls, we'll add color to one bowl and leave the other white, allowing us to create a multi-colored bath fizzie.
Add 5 to 6 drops of colorant to the mixture in one bowl. Add more for a darker color or less for a lighter color. It will take 3 to 5 minutes of whisking to thoroughly integrate the color.
Take a handful of the mixture and squeeze it in your fist. When you open your fist, if the mixture stays nicely packed in your palm it's ready to place in your molds. If you open your fist and the mixture crumbles, you'll need to add some additional moisture. Place some witch hazel in a small spray bottle and give your mixture 5 to 10 sprays, mix and then test it again. Repeat until you obtain the desired consistency.
Spoon your first color mixture into your mold, packing it down firmly with the back of your spoon. Add your second color mixture on top of the first and pack it down firmly as well. Repeat this process until your molds are completely filled to the top. Set aside and allow to dry overnight.
Remove the bath fizzies from their molds and set them on a flat surface. You may need to gently massage the sides of the mold with your hands to release the fizzies. Set aside and allow to dry for an additional day.
Once your bath fizzies have dried for a second day, they're ready to use! Drop one in your filled bath tub and watch the bubbling begin!
Waiting two full days for your bath fizzies to dry may seem like an eternity, but it's well worth it! Taking the fizzies out of there molds early may result in a lumpy mess.
It's best to use a colorant like LaBomb brand -- I've included a link above. These special colorants contain no water and won't cause your fizzie to prematurely fizz!
Bath fizzies make great gifts! Package them in clear cello bags and tie with ribbon for a sweet presentation.
